ECHOCARDIOGRAPHY
In echocardiography (an ultrasound examination of the heart), sound waves are used along with color flow Doppler and motion mode to evaluate the structure and function of the heart. Echocardiography is commonly used to monitor patients with heart disease and to assist cardiologists and internists in determining their treatment methods.
The modality of an echocardiograph can also assist in discovering early cardiac and thoracic disease before clinical signs are evident. Other forms of infections and neoplastic disease can also be diagnosed with thoracic ultrasound and echocardiography.
