REYNSEN SHIGEMOTO, DVM, MS, DACVR
Dr. Reyn Shigemoto received his veterinary degree from Colorado State University in 2007. After graduating, Dr. Shigemoto did an internship with VCA West Los Angeles Animal Hospital. His next two years were spent as the medical director at Animal Imaging Center in Los Angeles. Dr. Shigemoto went on to a radiology residency at the University of Florida, which he completed in 2013, and subsequently became board-certified in Radiology with the American College of Veterinary Radiology.
Dr. Shigemoto has always had veterinary medicine in his heart. He decided on his career path in high school, chose radiology as his specialty before he entered vet school and worked as a veterinary technician during college. In his spare time, Dr. Shigemoto enjoys dining out, going to the beach, weight-lifting, snowboarding and relaxing at home.
KETAKI KARNIK, DVM, MS, DACVR
Dr. Ketaki Karnik received her DVM degree from the University of California Davis and went on to complete a small animal medicine and surgery internship at the VCA West Los Angeles Animal Hospital. She then did her residency and Master’s at the Ohio State University where she was awarded the ACVR Resident Research and Hospital Service awards. Dr. Karnik worked at one of the largest specialty hospitals in the country as their sole radiologist for 7 years before joining the team at SCVI. She is also on the medical advisory board for the Los Angeles Zoo.
Dr. Karnik is a strong proponent of the human-animal bond and loves that as a radiologist she can help make a diagnosis to help both pets and their owners. In her spare time, she loves traveling to remote regions of the world, running, and hanging out with her dog and best friend, Harrison.
SHANON, PRACTICE MANAGER
Shanon worked for Veterinary Cancer Group for 3 years prior to joining Southern California Veterinary Imaging in 2017 as the practice manager. Shanon previously managed a hair salon, but her compassion for both animals and people led her into the veterinary field. Now Shanon hopes to continue to grow with Southern California Veterinary Imaging. In her free time, she loves being a mother to her four children. She also enjoys painting, refurbishing furniture, and cuddling with her four cats Marty, Misty, Mickey, and Maggie, and her two dogs Marshall and Maximus.
Mike has been with SCVI for over a decade. He performs CT scans, helps with diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine, assists with ultrasound, and is very busy with the various technical aspects involved with radiology to help keep the practice running smoothly. Mike transitioned from careers in banking and software to the veterinary field, as it was more fulfilling and closer to his heart.
Mike's previous software experience helped him learn and operate the CT, nuclear medicine's Nuc Mac software, and to understand the DICOM standard. Mike has a mixed breed rescue named Reese, and a rescue cat named Oliver. Reese and Mike spend a lot of their time hiking at Kenneth Hahn Park or playing at the dog park!
Chris came to us with seventeen years experience as a technician. She left general practice in search of a new challenge and found it at SCVI. Some of her many responsibilities include performing CT scans, assisting in ultrasound and nuclear medicine. Chris has two cats, Chandler and Brooklyn. They are her kids!
Jessica has always had a love for all animals, exotic and domestic. When she came to Southern California Veterinary Imaging in 2017, she already had experience working in all areas of a veterinary hospital. Jessica has a 12-year-old rag-doll/Siamese cat named Demetri, whom she refers to as her “heart and soul.” In Jessica’s free time, she loves to bake and hike in the wilderness. Jessica has many dreams and ambitions, including one day to live among lions.
Blues always knew he wanted to be a veterinary technician, his mother is a veterinary technician and from a young age Blues developed a strong passion for helping all animals. Blues is always trying to learn and grow in the veterinary field. Prior to working at SCVI, Blues worked in veterinary emergency and internal medicine. Blues does not just surround himself with animals at work, at home he has multiple dogs, mostly pitbulls and one rescued laboratory beagle mix named Nanna. When Blues is not surrounding himself with animals you can find him playing music, eating delicious vegan food, or staring at the ocean.
Trevor’s passion for animals lead him to his first job in the veterinary field here at Southern California Veterinary Imaging. He loves the time he’s able to spend helping and calling for pets while he pursues a degree in civil and electrical engineering. Trevor spends a lot of his time working with his father setting up servers, networks, building computers. He enjoys fabrication and carpentry but also spending time with his two pit bulls, Honey and Coco.
